How to choose a perfect trolling motor battery for your marine boat

Choosing the best trolling motor battery

When it comes to choosing a perfect battery for your trolling motor, there are some matter you will want to preference: Like Type of battery, batteries AMP hour rating and budget.

How to choose a perfect trolling motor battery

Type of battery:

There are two specific types of marine12-volt batteries selected for use with trolling motors:

Lead Acid batteries and AGM marine batteries.

Lead Acid Wet-Cell batteries– These type of batteries are most common, handle the frequent draining and re-charging associated with electric boat use, and they are very much affordable option. These will last between 24 and 12 and 6 months, can be purchased for less than $200 and are pretty standard. For more information on Lead Acid-cell batteries you can visit this site.

Absorbed Glass Mat marine batteries – The 2nd option are Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) batteries. Absorbed Glass Mat batteries are fully sealed, long time on a charge and have a longer life durable. While a common marine battery might last approximately 18-24 months, an AGM marine battery will usually last between 36 to 48 months. AGM’s cost significantly more than standard marine batteries – usually 2 as much – and may not be an option for those batteries on a tight budget.  While more high prices, these are the perfect choice for long life-span and better performance out on the sea or river. Absorbed Glass Mat marine batteries also have the added benefit of being completely maintenance free.

AMPs Hour

We can think of a battery’s AMP hour rating as being same to the gas tank of a car.   Everything else similar, a battery with a 110 amp hour rating will last longer than an 85 amp hour rated batteries.  In more technical terms, a 110 amp hour rated battery can deliver 110 amp hours of current to a boat motor.  So if a trolling motor was running at slow and pulling 5 amps, the battery should last around 20 hours.  (100 amp hour rating / 4 amps = 25 hours).  Similarly, if trolling motor was running at high speed and pulling 50 amps, the battery would last for 2 hours (100 amp hour rating / 50 amps = 2 hours).

Choosing a perfect battery for trolling motor use, we recommend a battery with AT LEAST a 75amp hour rating or a Group 25 rating.

Maintenance tips for trolling motor battery:

For better performance you should follow these tips bellow:

  • For better result never mix an old battery with new battery.

  1. Howdy! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you
using for this site? I’m getting fed up of WordPress
because I’ve had issues with hackers and I’m looking at alternatives for another platform.
I would be awesome if you could point me in the direction of a good
    platform.
